Cupping
Cupping Treatment Procedure
Cupping is a therapy where a cup or jar is attached to the skin and it causes local congestion through the pressure of the vacuum made by heating the base of the cups. The sensation is similar to that of massage especially with “moving cupping”. In ancient China it was called “horn method,” as they used animal horns to draw out liquid toxins.
Acupuncturists with their four years of Chinese medicine school are trained and licensed in cupping as well as other modalities and it falls within our scope of practice.
Nowadays we use either class or plastic cups with a wider range of applications expanding the therapeutic effects. We have “moving cupping”, where the cups are moved up and down the patient’s skin losing the muscles to causes better circulation through the body, increased range of motion and alleviates pain. We also combine with acupuncture, which is considered more effective for chronic conditions.
