What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body of specific points shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. These points have been chosen by the Chinese over a period of three thousand years. Recently, electromagnetic research has confirmed their locations.
Does acupuncture hurt?
You may feel some heaviness, tingling around the needle or traveling up and down the energy pathway. If you experience discomfort during acupuncture, it is usually mild.
How does acupuncture work?
Traditional acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (energy) and Xue (blood) through pathways that encase the body similar to nerves and blood vessels. Ancient theory explains acupuncture treatments as, allowing the Qi to flow in areas that are blocked. Acupuncture is thought to regulate and restore perfect balance in the body.
Are there different styles of acupuncture?
Yes, there are many different styles of Acupuncture. Acupuncture originated in China but also spread to Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Europe and the British Isles and America. Different styles developed with the many different opinions as to theory and technique.
How many acupuncture treatments will I need?
That depends upon the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint. You may need only a couple of treatments for an acute condition, but serious issues may require many treatments.
What should I know about the proposed acupuncture treatments?
Dr. Morse, acupuncturist, will explain the nature of your problem and what treatment she is recommending. She will explain to you the benefits and risks and what other treatment options are available to you through her, or by referral to another practitioner or physician.
Is there anything I need to do before receiving an acupuncture treatment?
- Wear loose clothing
- Wear little or no jewelry
- Treatment will be more beneficial if you’ve eaten beforehand
- Relax. You’re on your way to health and wellness!
What should I do while I’m receiving acupuncture treatment?
Relax. Take this time to lay still and enjoy some quiet time in your life.
Sometimes after the treatment you may feel sleepy or other times very energized. If you have any questions of concerns always ask Dr. Morse.
